This was taken after a very peaceful and memorable afternoon we spend at Bonsai Rock. As I was planning my trip to Lake Tahoe, I did a bit of reading and a lot of the photographers advices on spending time at the Bonsai Rock location and I decided to take their advice into consideration. When I looked up the location on google maps, it looked innocent enough and pretty close to the road. But when we reached the location we realized that even though the rock is pretty close to the road there is almost a sheer drop of about a 60-70 ft from the road to the lake shore. Add to the fact that the shoulder is made up of crumbling sand and rocks with no marked trails.
I was more worried about getting back from the shore to the rock in the dark so we decided to maybe avoid this location for this trip and comeback here maybe another time when we are better prepared. But at the hotel I stayed up late and researched the interwebs to figure out a better path to the shore and I finally found one and the next day we made it there around 5pm and spend some wonderful time enjoying this secluded location all to ourselves.
Continuing my 'Dark Hour' exploration of the Burj Khalifa. I guess this shot would be great at the blue hour, but at that time this area will be very crowded (and I don't feel like cloning out all the people!).
Digital Blending, Vertorama. a total of 7 exposures used. The Vertorama part was very tideous, for the first time I had to use the 'Warp' function of the Transform tools to deal with the optical distortion.

Early morning Autumn Sunrise at Two Jack Lake, looking towards Mt. Rundle. After seeing so many lovely images of this mountain, this was really high on my wish list when traveling through the Rockies. Now I am so glad to have been able to capture it with some amazing clouds!

Looking over to the Old Man of Storr from the banks of Loch Fada on the Isle of Skye. The wee bird in the bush by the lochside was an added bonus!
One of the views I was looking forward to photographing while I was in Canada, was Lake Moraine. So I got to the right spot on an early clear morning. However, the wind was blowing and the morning light never seemed to be just right. But in spite of being disappointed, I think I need to post this one to complete the series I have of Canada.

I like the dusk atmosphere of this photo. Taken quite a long time after sunset, a long exposure was needed (4 minutes), but it resulted in nice smooth colors of both the Yareta plants and volcanoes.

Mt Hood must be one of the most photogenic mountains peaks around. There are mountains higher and mightier, but Mt Hood had the perfect conical shape with pretty good vertical relief and lots of beautiful alpine lakes around it that provide tons of places to capture the elusive alpenglow.
This shot was taken at the beautiful Trillium lake campground during a summer road trip of the Oregon State. While Planning for the trip, everything I read about this location mentioned it being an excellent spot for sunrise in spring, fall, and winter. Unfortunately, during summer, the sun rises behind the mountain, leaving most of it in the shadows. This was disheartening to learn, but we had limited options. After toying with the idea of abandoning the location for a sunrise shot, we decided to make a morning of it and visit the lake.
That decision to stick with the original plan turned out to be one of the best decisions of the trip. We drove from Portland that morning and reached the lake well before sunrise and found the right amount of fog on top of the lake surface. As expected, the mountain was in the shadows during the first light, but as the sun rose more, the light started to filter over the tree line. The fog began to rise, and we had in front of us a truly stunning sunrise scene of Mt Hood and the Trillium Lake. I exposed the shot for the brightest light in the scene and let the natural beauty of the landscape take over. The results were better than any image I had in my mind while we were planning the trip.
The second picture, which was taken not long after the first one, however, the colors in the sky and also the reflection had totally changed.
I arrived at Watson Lake to see a beautiful pink sunset. After the sun set, the rocks seemed to start to glow, giving another great view. I returned next morning for a beautiful sunrise and waited around for golden morning hour. So I ended up with 4 pictures which I will post here over the next few days, and wonder which one gets your preference.

One of the most interesting things about nature photography is seeing nature’s wonders at its best possible lighting. This is one of those images I made of Mt Hood from Lost Lake, framing wise id did nothing just basically pointed the camera at the mountain at shot the image.
The interestingness in this image is the light and I had nothing to do with it other than capture it with a camera and my wife who shot the same image with an iPhone managed to get an exceptionally great picture too, so it’s not about the camera or post processing. It’s all about finding a good view and sticking with it until nature begins the show.

I took this one when we took a stop at the Tioga pass road after stopping at Mono Lakeas part of our 4th of July 2013 road trip. As we reached the location we took the drive all the way and then parked and took a small nap while waiting for the sun to move from directly above our heads. Then we took the drive back at a more leisurely pace back through the pristine Yosemite high country. I saw this location purely by chance and was a bit skeptical about this shot as the sun was still fairly up there and light was a bit harsh. So I decided to get my LEE big stopper out and use it to bring some interestingness to the picture. As if on cue an elderly gentleman walked into my frame with his fishing gear and started fishing.
I am still not entirely convinced about including people in my landscape shots but this came out much better than anything I could imagine at that time. The scene and the landscape here is fantastic and I hope to return here again when the light is far more favorable. After all its just 5 hour drive from my home. I just hope that this gentleman will be still there fishing and enjoying his time.

This is another old shot from our trip to Oregon two years ago. This shot was taken at the Lost Lake campground which has a superb view of Mt Hood, especially at sunset in summer. We had just finished hiking Oneonta gorge and were extremely tired. Moreover we didn’t knew of the exact location on the lake shore where we wanted to be.
Thankfully my wife had the presence of mind to ask a camp employee who directed us to the location which had a good view of the mountain. I was a bit skeptical about getting a good sunset shot here as the whole sky was cloudy. But just as the sun was in its final minutes, it started illuminating the mountain in intense pink and red lights and treated us to a show. I used a 2 stop ND grad filter here to even out the exposure and get color on the mountain. Hope you all like it and thanks for visiting.

While we were onour annual summer road trip driving through the state of Washington an unexpected storm hit the southern cascades regin and closed some o the roads we were supposed to take and rendered our campground inaccessible. Due to this unforeseen weather phenomenon we had to scrap our plans to get to Mt Adams and had to reevaluvate our travel itinerary.
Since this is one of our favorite areas to explore we had some familiarity with the area and decided to reroute our trip to Bend, Oregon and to explore some of interesting locations around that wonderful town. One of the locations we speced as a must have was the beautiful Sparks Lake. Last summer we were there for a beautiful sunrise so this time we decided to make it’s a sunset shoot. Thankfully, there were nice cloud cover as we approached the lake but that turned weird as the wind started to pick up. As sunset neared the wind had whipped up the clouds together and the mountain wrapped the clouds around its peak. The sunset provided the color.
Two volcanoes at Bolivia-Chile borders got red by the setting Sun. Quite a view together with the wonderful landscape of Lauca National Park!

After our stint at Ridgway, CO we moved onto our next stop which was in Aspen. And on our first day we went to the beautiful Maroon Bells view. We definitely were late for the season and only had a sliver of yellow let in the aspens but we got to see one of the most beautiful sunrises and got crystal clear reflection in the alpine lake.
In my brief time travelling I have found certain places that just stay with you and keep on beckoning you back to get that perfect shot which could very well happen if all the condition align. The moment I was here I knew that this was one of those places and I could see myself coming back again and again searching for that perfect shot. As for now I am pretty happy with my first attempt.

I was hoping for a colorful sunrise, but it was blocked by some clouds in the East. I like the result anyway, it's just different than expected. ;-)

Here is another sunset shot, this time from the beautiful Trillium Lake in Oregon with a great reflection of the mighty Mt Hood. For some reason I forgot to process this earlier, so I wanted to post before it fell off my radar again.
This shot was taken on a July morning so days were hot but there was still some fog up in the mountains before sunrise. There were a bunch of ducks nearby, playing along the shoreline and thus removing any hope of me having any chance of the perfect reflection shot.
It is an awesome experience to spend an early morning here watching the reflection of the sunning mountain the way morning light reflects off snow and granite. Thanks for visiting have a nice weekend..
